I created this saying quite a few years ago and it has been a part of my life ever since. It has been in many of my stories as well and are good words to live by.

"Life is meant to have ups and downs, because without the downs in our life how can we appreciate the ups that grace our small amount on time on this Earth."  Christine Wilson

So true Chris - very eloquent... though you have two spelling mistakes in there, so you might want to spell check your sayings before they make their way around the internet with your name attached!!!!!

Thanks Sandy I would not want to have my saying all over the net misspelled. You are the best.

I meant to say more about your philosophy than spelling, I so agree with the ups and downs. It's funny, I was just reflecting earlier that this thought must be harder for people who are glass half-empty kind of people than for folks like us who are definitely glass half-full. I always feel really sorry for folks who have that disposition, and I never really know if that is who they are as part of their essential identity, or if it's just how they choose to respond to things. I suppose it doesn't matter, but it must make hard events in life even tougher ( or perhaps it's tougher for us since we aren't anticipating it?)... anyway, been pondering it a bit this morning since I read your wise words!

Sorry that sounded a bit like I was talking about others and not reflecting on myself... What it is is that I'm a bit worried about mum, who tends to be glass half-full and as she gets older, I can see some of it spiraling into depression and I'm still trying to find strategies to support her, so it was a reflection on that.

Trying to help someone that is optimistic is difficult because we have a tendency to fall further when things don't work out our way. I always have been a half-full gal and it has caused me lots of hardships at times. I have questioned many times if my optimism is more of a hindrance then benefit. But then there are times when my optimism has gotten me threw some very tough times and if I was a pessimistic person I would not have made it threw my hardships. I think that is why my "words to live by" has been such a influence in my life. I have found that when I am at my lowest I think of my philosophy and I find I can get threw anything. Being worried about a love one just shows how wonderful a person you are and I hope that my words of wisdom can be helpful in some way.
